Projects & remodel
One job on the house you already have—roofing, HVAC, kitchen, and more. Building a whole house instead? See the new-home method.

Each project page: a sourced planning range, calculation details, process steps and contractors near your ZIP.
Purpose
Projects is a planning estimator for one job. It helps you get a published low / midpoint / high range with a broad regional adjustment before collecting contractor quotes.
It is not a contractor bid, a permit guarantee, an appraisal, or a resale-value forecast. For published Cost vs Value rankings, see Remodel ROI—that study is separate from our cost engine.

Calculation
Same honesty as the full-house tool—narrowed to a single project definition instead of every build chapter.
01
Each project links to the published cost-guide tables used in its calculation. We distinguish installed prices from material-only prices and record a source-review date.
02
Measured quantities multiply published unit rates, or your choices select a matching project range. We do not add a generic difficulty or access percentage.
03
A recognized ZIP selects a state. We multiply published prices by its 2024 BEA Regional Price Parity index divided by 100. This consumer-price measure is a broad proxy, not a construction-cost or ZIP-level quote index.
04
Each page shows the quantities, price ranges, sources, scope and exclusions. Your own material allowance is added unchanged. The central figure is the arithmetic midpoint, not a surveyed average.
Sources
Prices come from the specific Angi, HomeGuide and HomeAdvisor cost-guide tables linked on each project page. These are published editorial benchmarks, not our own verified job-level invoice dataset. Sources were checked October 1, 2026; their underlying prices may be older.
Location adjustment uses the BEA’s 2024 state Regional Price Parities. ZIPs in the same state receive the same adjustment. We do not claim city-level accuracy, and this proxy has not been calibrated against contractor bids. Unknown locations show national prices.
Labor/material charts are generalized illustrations, not sourced itemized costs. They do not determine the estimate. Published installed rates already include both. No automatic inflation, contingency, discount or tax incentive is invented. A site visit and itemized bids are still necessary before committing a budget.
Ranges
The range describes the selected published scope. It is not a statistical confidence interval, a guaranteed ceiling, or a contractor bid.
Low
The lower end of the selected published rate or project range, with the stated regional adjustment.
Midpoint
Halfway between low and high. It is not a prediction of the most likely price.
High
The upper end of the same published range. Not a ceiling: hidden damage, unusual sites and excluded work can cost more.
Reality
Not a bid. Not a schedule. Not a promise that your roof or kitchen will cost exactly the midpoint. Local access, code, material choices, and discovery work move real numbers.
Not Cost vs Value resale math. Remodel ROI on this site summarizes published national Cost vs Value studies so you can compare bang-for-buck at sale—then jump into our cost estimator for planning spend.
Bottom line: use the range to budget and talk to pros—then let local quotes replace our planning band.
